There is only one path to shining the light of understanding on the times in which we live, and that is to know our place in history. Contrary to the common notion that history is a dull and dusty topic, Western Values Defended is a punchy and relevant overview of the greatest gems of Western Civilization, and how they came to define the daily character of individual liberty in the West. Sharp and on point, this little primer is for everybody who cares about the future of freedom, for those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

What others are saying about Western Values Defended:
'Western Values Defended' by Olivia Pierson is an eloquent reminder that superstition is the enemy of enlightenment. It is a series of salutary snapshots from the last two millennia illustrating the pitched battle the forces of reason and its corollaries, freedom and prosperity, have had to wage against unreason and its corollaries, deprivation and barbarism. It is tempting, in our current context, to believe that Islam is the sole repository of the latter; Pierson's primer, while justly indicting Islam, is also a sobering testament that in its heyday, Christianity could be just as virulent—and that, to paraphrase and juxtapose one of the book's icons, Thomas Jefferson, the price of liberty is eternal hostility to any form of tyranny over the minds of men. Fashionable multiculturalism, she points out also, is one such form. 'Western Values Defended,' by contrast, is a proud paean to each human individual's inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. - Lindsay Perigo, Broadcaster, Editor, Author, Commentator, Speech & Media coach.
“Know your history boy,” an old Irishman once advised me. And yet how many really do know the history of the civilisation they take so much for granted, and so many so openly despise. Olivia Pierson has written a short, sharp, easily-read primer for anyone who does want to know this glorious history—and why it was so glorious. You might argue that it’s no sin not to know your history. But it is when it’s made this easy to discover — and who knows? You may even discover it wasn’t all made by dead white males. - Peter Cresswell, Author of Not PC Blogspot
I recommend this book which, the Author states is intended to be a ‘Primer’ for people interested in the future of freedom. It is very well researched, easy to read and I found that it was enlightening by reminding me of events, political and social systems throughout history, some of which were learnt as a student but no longer fresh to mind. Olivia Pierson adeptly uses analogies of societies which are dominated by religious dogma, varieties of the Christian sects, ‘Godless’ doctrines such as Communism, and finally she concludes that if Western and Capitalist Values are not defended, and we succumb to another System dominated by religious laws, corruption and bigotry we might very well dissolve as a Society with Western aspirations and fall like the mighty Roman Empire did. - Barry Millage, Architect, Kapiti
For every Aquila that falls in the struggle for Western values, there now stands testament a woman who screamed "I told you so!" Or if these values are to be once again upheld among the vox populi, the essence of a cogent "you're welcome!" - Zach Van Dorp, Economics & Philosophy Student
This little book is a crisp, elegantly written overview of the values which make the West a great place to live. The author has a good grasp of history, both American and European, dating back to the Ancient Greeks. Considering the troubled times Europe seems to be heading into, if ever Westerners needed a timely reminder of this history, it is now. - Amazon Customer
Mark Twain once quipped “I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” Which illustrates the difficulty of writing a short speech or, in this case, a primer. Even more so a primer on western values which, arguably, span thousands of years. In this primer, however, Olivia Pierson succeeds admirably. She takes us on a riveting journey from the birthplace of western values, Ancient Greece, to the scientific advancements that made possible our standard of living today, and finally on to the 21st century where western values seem to be under constant attack. And she does so in a book that can be read in under an hour and in a writing style that is accessible to all. Quite an achievement. - Julian - Amazon Customer
An exceptionally well-written defense of Western liberal philosophy and culture! At a time when Western values are overwhelmingly menaced, Ms. Pierson systematically explains just what Western values are, and why they're so overwhelmingly important. The West today is massively under assault from the forces of socialism and religion, and Ms. Pierson persuasively and passionately explains how we all can -- and must! -- fight back against the horrifically threatening darkness. - Ky Zan - Amazon Customer
What a great and timely idea; both a book reminding us of Western values, and in the form of a primer. [Noting the Kindle version has great production values.] I read the book in two easy sittings and was impressed at how much Pierson manages to squeeze in. Given I believe we now live in the ruins of a once great society, that could have worked toward the freedom and prosperity of so much more of the world population had not classical liberalism fallen to the Progressives, the 'emotion' I felt when reading this primer was a deep seated sadness of what once was, and the promise, that has been irredeemably lost. Guess that makes me a doomsayer, but looking around me there's too much crud to work back, and the minds of the young are largely lost to a progressive state schooled near monopoly. But perhaps this primer can win some of those young minds back, and as good, their parents. Buy it. Read it. Advocate it and/or pass it around. It's important. For myself I'm putting it in my diary to read this same time every year, end of April, to remind myself there are colleagues out their, like Pierson, who know the truth, and are worthy of support for that. Respect. - Mark Hubbard - Amazon customer
Pierson's voice is a welcome one in a sea of Western self-doubt. Placed in correct historical context, Pierson makes it clear that there has never been a civilization more supportive of prosperity and happiness. Well done, and highly recommended! - Amazon customer
