Even More Woes of NZ Minor Parties

By Olivia Pierson

Democracy NZ arguably just lost its best people with the resignation of five candidates: Dr. Matt Shelton, Kirsten Murfitt, Lee Smith and Bill Dyet, after the board fired Waikato farmer, Steve Cranston, who was also the party’s spokesman on Climate Change.

Cranston says terribly sensible things like this:

The National Party speaks with a forked tongue – on the one hand it says it stands with farmers, while on the other it maintains policies that will still destroy farming communities, just at a slower rate. Democracy NZ won’t sell out our farmers. We will end the carbon emissions madness.

National has been for decades a fork-tongued perpetuator of the Climate Alarmism hoax - and all the preposterous legislation built up around that entirely false edifice.   And we know the farmers cop all the restrictive hoop-jumping in its wake, right down to the now common land-grabs. Yeah, that'll destroy farming communities pretty quickly.

My question has been, can the board of Democracy NZ back its truth-telling talent in their candidates, or are they already fully focused on future compromises they know they must make in order to even be in the game at a higher level?

No, they obviously didn't back them.

Murfitt’s statement of resignation includes this issue with their board:

 4. The systemic issues that threatened the party and the board refuses to address and resolve these issues. We have been told that the board will no longer be transparent with its decisions and that if we do not like the way the party is conducted then we should resign. The culture of the party does not give us confidence that the party will be successful at implementing changes if we are taking into parliament.

We do not agree that the issues we identified were normal, and they risk the party’s ability to grow and deliver. We have learnt, if we didn’t know already, that politics is a cut-throat business, but it is a recipe for disaster for us if DemocracyNZ operations and culture are not congruent with the promise of a genuine new and exciting political party and breed of politician.

At this early dawn in the party’s foundational culture, Matt King is playing old-school politics with the tired old pragmatic trope of 'loyalty to party' over the objections of very motivated, intelligent and serious candidates, who are professionals, having spent the last 3 years on the frontline of our new Totalitaria, fighting mandates, lockdowns and a Blitzkrieg of punitive rulings and legislation from our state. The DNZ party is in the fledgling process of still forming, is King not going to allow some of his ablest and boldest to be a pillar in that forming?

Obviously not.

The DNZ board seem to be making King acquiesce to what they know would be non-negotiable issues for coalition partner National, should they be so lucky and get somewhere in the election.

I can hear Cam Slater channelling Darryl Kerrigan: “Tell em ‘e's dreamin!”

Or worse, “This is Monty Pyth0n level stuff: Judean Peoples Front vs the Peoples Front of Judea,” as he said yesterday on Reality Check Radio with Paul Brennan.

Hopium, he calls it.

It’s no secret that Slater has always held a dim view of minor parties as a general rule because they tend to be idealistic wannabes (he uses the term “purists”),
instead of pragmatic, and they often revolve around one main issue causing them to only appeal to single-issue voters. This is often truly the case.

I, on the other hand, despite the obvious high crash and burn rate, like to see minor parties try to make a go of it, especially after watching our system of the last 50 years land us squarely in status quo, bleak pragmatism, without a noble ideal in parlance anymore, as the techno commies take us over from within. It gives us a signal that democracy’s little wild bouquet can still even be waved with sincerity.

I wouldn’t be the only one who would like to see Winston Peters, or someone who does have a hope in hell of getting 5% of the vote plus (snake Seymour doesn’t count), who also has an understanding of how effing serious this unpatriotic globalist smashing of national sovereignty is from the supranational bodies of WHO, the UN, the WEF and the BIS.

Would Winston have the courage and focus on liberty to pick up these high-caliber NZDSOS candidates and endorse them as the type of bold talent that all parties now clearly lack? He’s cleverly positioning himself almost daily to take on the global fascists and these candidates have put themselves forth at a fair cost to themselves, knowing that’s where the war is.  True convictions are a luxury now that most people can’t afford, yet we need them now more than ever.

Politics as we know it runs on loyalty to party first, which I find rather revolting as a principle set in stone - as if it were the most ennobling virtue in the universe.

Loyalty must be well placed to be worth anything at all.

These candidates have now just proved themselves to be a right, honourable, bloody handful and no political leader such as Mr. Peters would welcome that kind of serious “and I mean it!” candidate into his small pond that runs on loyalty to the party first, second and last. Given his age and experience, maybe he ought to, if his party is to survive and kick-ass over the next 5-10 years. At the moment it looks to me as if an iconic brand is fading.

As Murfitt wrote in her resignation letter:

It is a recipe for disaster for us if DemocracyNZ operations and culture are not congruent with the promise of a genuine new and exciting political party and breed of politician.

A new breed of politician. Amen.

DNZ had an opportunity here to have exceptional people help set the very culture of the party in its foetal form, in the fundamental integrity of new politics knowing the gravity of what is as stake. But it looks to me as though they weren’t serious enough about backing their own talented professionals who were seriously messed with over the last three years by our system. If amending the Bill of Rights - in order to get it entrenched - means overturning 30 years of law and legislation, so be it!  (My own view.) Amend it to entrench it! No other legislation should have the ability to override any part of the BOR, especially the wokified Human Rights Act.

Pragmatism is “whatever works.” It’s largely what got us into maintaining these lowlands of bleak political status-quo because whatever works has proven to be “whomever is able to be bought.”

Listen to someone whom I believe won’t be bought. Dr. Matt Shelton in his interview with Paul Brennan this morning on the exit from DNZ.

There is likely to be the 5 existing parties after 14 Oct and a possibility of NZF. The chance of a minor is almost zero and could help keep the current government in power. You are correct about National and climate change. However, Act has sensible position on climate alarmism. That is why I resigned from National and joined Act.

The resignations of 5 great Independent Representatives from Dnz is pretty evident that EGO'S are stronger than what the People wanted.. This could be great for another excellent Independent Representative Leighton Baker Party ( Consulting not Dictatorial antiquated Indirect Democracy System ) YES Imagine.. NZ1ST, Leighton Baker Party, both getting 5%each then votersunited.nz push Freedomnz in as well 5%..very possible extra Electorate INDEPENDENTS???

Is this Winston's hour? The parallels between 'our' Winston and that icon of the 20th Century are extraordinary. Churchill was reviled by his enemies and loathed by his friends. No-body would have a bar of the man in the 1920s and 1930s. And only a few stood by him right up until 1940 - after Chamberlain had proved his ineptitude, incompetence and cowardice.
As you suggest Olivia, western civilization is in the fight of its life – probably even more so than in 1940 because it is the entirety of western civilization that is on the block.
Personally the very thought of ever voting for Winston Peters would have justified my being permanently committed to a psychiatric ward. But, with the likes of Democracy NZ self destructing, ACT's blatant treachery and the absolute ruin presented by the Uniparty of National and Labour (let alone the psychotic Greens), I think Winston Peters might be the one and only chance all of us have. And, it really could become the hour that Winston Peters has worked towards for the last 40 years.
God help us – that's all I can say …

Steve,

Can’t say I agree with you at all on Winston being anything like Churchill. No sir.

The only person in the world who is Churchillian is Trump: from the elite club but one hundred percent on the side of the working man. And a thousand times more reviled than Churchill ever was.

But there's another old adage Olivia – cometh the hour, cometh the man.
I don’t disagree with you FOR ONE MOMENT about Winston Peters, but virtually everyone wrote off Churchill as a self serving trouble maker; even a rabble rouser. The one thing none of us can deny is that Peters is a consummate opportunist, and I think that mirrors the Churchillian analogy - rather than Trump, whom I see as a deeply flawed but genuine idealist and patriot. I still believe we need someone to come in and metaphorically clean out the Augean stables. That, for sure, is not going to come from anyone who is currently a member of that so-called parliament. And who else is there ????

Goodness olivia, totally agree with you word for word- although isnt “effing” a mis-spelling of...
While in my 70 odd I could never vote labour- I voted green when they were, & we had fitzsimons & donald, values party when they had some, nz first when they actually put nz 1st, muldoon cos he DID put nz 1st, & tho never felt the need to smoke dope I voted young tanzos the 'rasta' lad- because thats what nz needed. People like that, & for same reason I voted mcgillicuddy serious party once or twice when all hope seemed lost. While I voted for act with hide- seymour is ardern in trousers- [tho he look the same in a skirt- [oop sry girls.] No, that not personality politix- just the truth.
So mr king, I am sorry they defected- but I am more sorry they were given no choice, because there are a few hundred thousand votes like mine dunno where to go.
Leighton b, wot th hell you playing at- start talking to mat shelton & co
Freedom nz- same- & clean up yr act fast- need to lose some unworthies.
While I hadnt a religious bone in my body, the last few yrs been fair testing- maybe if God was a choice on the ballot paper... who else gonna help us?
cos be honest- last 5 years been no diff with my old stand-by, national. & luxon? a weak globalist puppet who will put the un & foreign interests before ours

You think Trump is Churchillian?! What planet have you been living on? The man is a mentally ill, drug-addicted, delusional narcissist with decades long ties to the Mob. He's a disaster for his party and his country. RFKJr is a much better bet.

In this country, I'll be voting for Matt Shelton, whichever party he chooses. He has genuine inegrity. I can't vote for DemocracyNZ anymore, although I had intended to. Hidden agendas and lack of transparency are a major turn off.

Nicole,

"You think Trump is Churchillian?!”

I know he is.

"What planet have you been living on? The man is a mentally ill, drug-addicted, delusional narcissist with decades long ties to the Mob. He's a disaster for his party and his country. RFKJr is a much better bet.”

Actually I covered his presidency for 4 years in some detail on this site and what you assert here is pure Trump Derangement Syndrome nonsense.
He was magnificent, I’d go so far as to say miraculous considering the Deep State forces arrayed against him, which is still going on. If he was as you declare - why do you think the whole Cabal is trying to stop him from running again?

Please try to be a bit more coherent in your reply.. you know, with things called facts.

Nicole,

better yet, you can always answer in the comments under one of the many articles I wrote about the Trump presidency.
That way this thread won’t get muddied up since it’s about DNZ and NZ.

I agree with you about Shelton, but as things stand you won’t be voting for him because he’s party-less at this stage.

Assume this the real Nicole Foss? I have hung on yr every word, like olivia- you both my heroines so for goodness sake guys hug & make up we all on same side. The vax issue with trump being prez was complex- yeh he now needs to commit, but hey he invited rfk jnr to head up an investigation into vaxes- & was overridden, he pushed HCQ & was overridden, same bleach, & we know vit C with fentons reaction converts to H2O2. When the swamp’s MSM devoted massive resource to take him out was clear he was good for both the yanks, & world peace- & while mightnt be my 1st choice to share a beer with, his delivery at the UN denouncing the globalists was superlative.
& again- as ardern HATED him, given she a sociopathic commie globalist... good enuf for me.
sure agree something fishy at democnz

One idea about how to fix the NZ Bill of Rights 1990 to ensure there are no more medical mandates. I proposed this simple solution toward the end of 2021.

When the rubber hit the road on the highway of personal freedom, Seymour was in this government and abandoned every individual right in sight.

Most egregiously, bodily autonomy. He still claims that all cause mortality death rates are running in the negative, when they’re soaring. He is militantly blind and endorsed the peculiarly fascistic empowering of employers to order their staff (and customers) to inject a rushed, experimental substance into their bodies or find work elsewhere. Therefore harming people in a very crude way by punching them where it hurts, their ability to survive.

Do you still think he truly is a man who respects the “liberty” of the individual in any fundamental respect?

He’s a worm - and a Napoleonic little one. “Nobody cares about you mate,” as he confidently said to Will Ryan.

Yeah, no kidding, we got that.

He was *in government* when all this took place.

He had influence which he refused to use because he too is a China-loving globalist, funded by cowardly GPs who need the status quo to hold, which means beholden to corporate pharma... he probably has his own little Pfizer account. How would we know any different?

I have voted ACT in the past. Wouldn’t touch it under snake Seymour. Horrid little man who should be rolled.

To me the biggest issue in this upcoming election is equality of citizenship No country can thrive if its citizens dont feel part of the same team. Winston knew full well where Labour and the Greens and the Maori party were taking us but put his personal grievance against National and ego before the country. The only party that consistantly states that we are all one people ;is Act
David Seymours actions over the mandates were very disappointing but it is clear to me in light of my priority that Act will get my support

It's difficult to pick anyone out of the current crop of parties, I feel no-pne is worthy of my vote - but as my grand parents used to say they fought for the right to be given a vote so don't waste it!
An analogy would be similar to buying a house, you have eg 10 things you want in a house but have to make a compromise which is similar to picking a party. I will never vote for the left which now includes the National party (basically Labour in a blue jacket). I just wish Winston would retire, he's done enough damage siding with Cindy, which leaves ACT. I agree there are things Seymour says and has done which are wrong but using my house analogy he gets 7/10 boxes ticked, plus ACT has the benefit of having Brooke Van Weldon who is one very astute and clever person, so ACT will get my support because of her. They are the only party to say NO to the Zero carbon bill which for me is a big tick.
